Trend of decreasing human involvement

Trend of decreasing human involvement: trend of engineering system evolution according to which as an engineering system evolves, the number of engineering system functions performed by humans decreases.

Overview

The trend of decreasing human involvement is a sub-trend (mechanism) of the trend of increasing completeness of system components

Before an engineering system is designed, a human performs all functions at every level themself – otherwise, those functions would not exist. The emergence of the system and its further development allow it to gradually take over these functions (increasing its completeness), thereby reducing human involvement. This process typically unfolds in the following order:

  1. transmission,
  2. energy source,
  3. control system, and
  4. decision-making.
